1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came or were you expecting it?
I really expected a state rank. When I came first, it was a surprise to me. I think that it would be a gift to my hardworks and sacrifices.

2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
Yes, I started my preparations for twelfth standard examinations in the 11th standard since 11th portions are basic for 12th standard.

3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
I depended only on my school materials. We are provided with many study materials. We have revision classes too. So I didn't go for any special coaching.

4. For how many hours per day did you study?
6 hours other than school hours

5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your work?
We had classes from 7am to 6 pm. I have written test atleast for 1.5 hours daily. I spent 2 hours for daily test. Then I ready my daily portions.

6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your work?
I will be free on holidays. I will read the subjects and also the languages. I would also play with my brother.

7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
Yes, my preparations to the subjects would be different. My approach to the languages and subjects would be different

8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for -
a. Language (Tamil) Paper

For Tamil, I just read all the things in the text book and I practised a lot to write the poetic lines as it is in the book. For questions and answers and essays, I use my own way of writing. I tried to include the general quotes and sayings while writing the essays.

b. English Paper

We need to concentrate in Grammar. Practise many model papers and try to find the correct answers will improve our knowledge in English

c. Physics Paper

We just try to understand the concept. We should have written practice for derivations and diagrams. For descriptive questions, we can divide a question into many sub-divisions, so that we can write everything without missing any points.

d. Chemistry Paper

Written practice is very important in Chemistry. We should understand the organic equations and should practise 'choice of questions' is very important in getting Centum in Chemistry. We can choose very simply questions if we read everything. We can avoid the descriptive answers.

e. Mathematics Paper

For Maths, just understanding and listening with attention in Class is sufficient. We should see all the problems in book including examples and important notes. For objective questions, we should read the questions and understand it clearly and try to work it out.

f. Biology Paper

I think Biology is a vast subject that includes a lot of concepts. But it is very simple to read that requires many efforts - that is written practice. But generally, it is a time requiring subject.

9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
For exams, we are awarded marks only for our correct answers. Our handwriting should be perfect and clear need not to be beautiful. Then we should practise to complete the test in time.

10. Are there any strict Dos and Donts that you would recommend a student preparing for his or her twelfth standard examinations to adhere to?
Dos

* Should always think about our studies
* Have a planning about daily activities and studies
* Get cleared the doubts then and there
* Get advises from seniors and guidelines from teachers
* Get advises from seniors and guidelines from teachers can follow the three R system - Read, Recall, Reproduce
* Look after your health

Donts

* Waste the time
* Be an absentee to school
* Concentrate on the recreational items
11. Did your school identify you as a prospective state rank holder early and give any special attention and coaching? How important is the choice of a school in achieving high marks in the examinations?
Yes, they had selected me as one of the 100 students - who were selected for special coaching

While selecting the school, we should see the results of the school and their teaching styles. We can consult the aluminus - since the school will play major roles to pursue our goal.

12. What was the role of your parents and family in your preparations for your public examinations?
My parents helped me a lot. They sacrificed many things for me like TV, festivals etc during the entire year. They created for me a good circumstance with peaceful atmosphere in home.
