1. Congratulations on getting the state rank in the HSC examinations. Was it a surprise when it came or were you expecting it any way?
I was expecting a State Rank. Even then, I was little surprised to hear it. My dream has come true.

2. Many schools and students start their preparation for the twelfth standard examinations while in the 11th standard itself. When did you start your preparations for the 12th standard public examinations?
I started preparing for my 12th std as soon as my 11th common exams were over.

3. Was the teaching and materials provided by the school sufficient for your preparations or did you take any special coaching for any of the subjects?
I didn't take any special coaching. My school's coaching was more than enough. I wrote a lot of self tests.

4. For how many hours per day did you study?
I studied for 6 hours per day.

5. How was your typical school working day like? How would you allot time for each of your work?
School time is from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Apart from this two tests will be conducted daily at school (1) 8:30 am to 10:00 am (2) 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

6. How was your typical school holiday (weekend etc) like? How would you allot time for each of your work?
Saturday will be a full working day. I will put a time table and complete all my writing works by Saturday night. I will use the Sunday for covering that week's lessions.

7. Did you approach preparation for each of the subject (Language, English, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology/Computer Science) differently or was your approach the same to each of the subject?
My approach was different for each of the subject. My teachers guidance was immense.

8. If your approach to each of the subjects were different, how did you approach the preparation for -
a. Language (Tamil) Paper

Creative thinking wins in this subject. Handwriting should be clear and easily understandable. Sentences should be short and sweet. The answers should be only to the question. We should be thorough with all the one marks. Quote some famous sayings or proverbs. Highlight the main points.

b. English Paper

We should do a lot of homework in grammar. We should not lose even a single mark in it. Use simple sentences while writing essays. Neat presentation is very important. Read the stories many times. Read Newspaper daily to attend general essays.

c. Physics Paper

Be thorough with the text book. Go through the 1 mark questions in PTA books, book back questions. Highlight the headings in 3 marks. While preparing read each and every line and note down the key points. Never forget to write those points. Be familiar with the blue print and prepare accordingly.

d. Chemistry Paper

Organic lessons have to be learnt as and when taken. Write all the equatiions many times. Draw tabular columns to remember the preparations, physical and chemical properties of organic compounds. The rest of the chemistry becomes easy when understood.

According to his instruction and advise, I spent more time for Organic Chemistry, practised the difficult equations, numerical problems and diagrams.

e. Mathematics Paper

One can easily score 200 in Mathematics. The only thing is we should understand the concept. Each and every sum given in the text book should be worked out many times until we become familiar with the answers (it happens gradually). Be thorough with the book back One marks.

f. Biology Paper

Each and every word given in the text book is very important. It is not possible to learn it just before the exams. A lot of self tests should be written. Diagrams should be neat and parts must be labelled.

9. How important are handwriting and learning to write speedily in the examinations? Is there anything that a student can do to improve these two aspects?
Writing speedily is very important so that one can go through the answers and rectify mistakes. This can be improved by managing the time during class tests. Handwriting shold be given importance only for language and English papers.
